#9 – THE GURU
Years ago there was a very popular weekly variety night in Melbourne called ‘The Catchpenny Club’. It evolved into ‘The Variety Collective’ before fading into the mists of legend. But while it was still ‘The Catchpenny Club’, Tim Ellis enlisted the help of TV producer Ben Whimpey to transform the show (produced and hosted by Nicholas J Johnson) into a TV series for Channel 31.

Yes, he did actually grow that moustache just for the character – and he shaved it off the moment he walked off stage!
